Radical Authentic Fitness, video conversation, Kerry.

The thing we miss when we think fitness is about how we look on the outside is that our whole life depends on our fitness.

Our relationships.

Our job/career/vocation.

Our connection to ourself.

We have to be “fit” for it all, which means we have to “exercise” every area, take action in each area and make sure one area is not more important than another.

I call the act of connecting our fitness actions “Triangulation”.

Triangulation is how I make sure the actions I take to be physically “fit” are not causing harm to my mental and spiritual self.

Until you connect what you do, how you think and how it feels, your whole self will not achieve “fitness” and you will be stuck in a loop of diet and exercise.

My fitness isn’t calculated by my BMI (bullshit meter index) or my current weight/size of clothing. My fitness is free from the confines of current media trends. I teach fitness from a perspective that includes everything about who a person is and how they live in the world. I consider my time with friends part of my fitness. When I go to church I am participating in my fitness. Walking my dog and family trips are fitness activities

Being fit is a lifetime activity. Fitness goals should be lifespan goals.

What do you want to be able to do when you are 97?

Energy! Vitality. Longevity. Have you ever heard an octogenarian say, “I wish my tummy was flatter? NO! (thank you very much) they want mobility and sharpness of mind and the ability to do what they want.

And IF you are going to become fit in a way that is bringing more of you into the world you will have to make lifespan goals.

And you can start right where you are now, with a simple shift in belief.

One of the first things many of my clients do is move away from past beliefs about what fitness is supposed to be and how it should to look. When we start with the the life we want to live and how we want to feel, we discover our innate drive to move, eat, think and connect in ways that serve a greater purpose.

To this end I have started a conversation series with people I know who are living Radcial Authentic Fitness lives. I hope you will watch, share and that when you do, I hope you learn something about yourself that brings you closer to a full and integrated fitness life.

If there is one thing I know for sure it is that we have to be whole if we are going to live fully.

This is my first RAF conversation and I chose to speak with a dear friend I have known for many years.

As you listen to this I hope you will pay special attention to the fact that Kerry mentions her deep relationship with movement. It’s important to note that while Kerry enters fitness through movement she has the wisdom and experience to authentically connect her mind and soul into the equation.

I am especially impressed by Kerry’s lifelong dedication to exploring ways of moving and creating meaning in her life. I think she is an example to us all of how being in a body is not only a blessing but the great teacher of existence.

Be sure to hang out till the end of the interview when she gives some incredible advice to us all, that I for sure plan to take!

Thank you Kerry, I adore you.

Maggie
PS- you should know that Kerry took the photos for the opening sequence of the video! She is so good at what she does.
